Oil pulling is a practice that involves using oils, namely coconut oil, to pull the toxins out of your mouth. Some people swish coconut oil around in their mouth for whiter teeth or fresher breath. You usually need to do this for about 10-20 minutes a day to see the effects. I have a recipe for toothpaste that includes coconut oil so you can oil pull while you brush your teeth.
The effects of oil pulling are amazing: it whitens teeth, freshens breath, relieves the sensitive areas on your teeth and gums, reduces mucus, relieves chapped lips, it really is a great addition to your routine everyday. Here is my toothpaste and mouthwash recipe that includes a few simple household ingredients.
Toothpaste:
6 tbsp of coconut oil
6 tbsp of baking soda
20 drops of peppermint oil
Mix everything in a cup or jar and dip your toothbrush in; it may take some getting used to as far as taste goes but this toothpaste does wonders for your mouth.
Mouthwash:
Filtered warm water and peppermint oil. Swish around in your mouth, gargle with it and spit. Also, remember to floss and see the dentist every 6 months if you can.
Tom's toothpaste is a brand of toothpaste that is all natural if you decide this recipe isn't right for you. Trader Joe's also has a natural brand of toothpaste that is big on baking soda.
Have you ever done oil pulling? Do you purchase natural skin care products and what brands do you use?
love your blog and attitude on veganism!
