Homemade Creamy Cashew Milk

Happy October! My favorite season is well on its way. Ever since I bought my Nutribullet, I've been an expert at making creamy cashew milk. I mean, it's the best milk ever. It tastes delish and it has a rich consistency, I am craving it almost everyday. I figured out a way to make it quickly even if you haven't soaked your cashews overnight. Have no fear, make it as soon as you get home from the grocery store, make it at any time and you will have super creamy cashew milk in minutes.

Kale Strawberry Smoothie + Homemade Chocolate

Smoothies, fruit, that's all I want lately. It's too hot to cook and I'm so uninspired; I was thinking of making a raw dessert but I need to go shopping and I just don't feel like it. I went to the farmers market this morning, which was rather empty, surprisingly, and I got two quarts of strawberries after walking around all the tables like three times. Only one farm had organic strawberries and they wanted $7 for a little pint so I got 2 quarts for $5 each of minimally sprayed strawberries. The farmer explained the pesticide is not sprayed directly on the berries, instead they spray the roots. You just can't get away from this shit; it's killing the bee population but yet we still use pesticides. I'm sure organic farming is alot more difficult than conventional farming but if you have to cover your mouth when spraying pesticide on food, why would it be ok to eat??!! This is why I hit up Whole Foods during their organic berry sales; I want to buy local

Spotlight on Local Plant-Based Business: Organic Gemini

I had the pleasure recently of reviewing some amazing products from Organic Gemini, a company that makes delicious food and drinks from Tigernuts, root veggies that are sweet and fibrous. The company sent me different flavors of their horchata drinks, cold pressed drinks that are similar to milk but come in various flavors. I urge you to try all of them but my favorite was the coffee flavored drink! Head over to organicgemini.com to learn more about tigernuts and to hear the story of how Miriam and George founded the company in 2013.

Cucumber/lime green tea

Here is another iced tea recipe! This one is green all around :) 1 lime 1/2 of an organic cucumber 6-8 green tea bags Ice cubes Boil water for tea and seep the green tea bags for about 10 minutes. Drain the tea bags and pour the tea into a pitcher filled with ice cubes. Two trays of ice cubes will make the tea cold enough to taste test it. Juice 1/2 of the cucumber and then pour the cucumber juice into the iced tea. Stir and then squeeze almost the whole lime into the iced tea. Add the cucumber juice and lime juice slowly into the tea, testing as you go along. I didn't add any sugar but add some agave or stevia to the tea if you need it. Enjoy on a hot summer day! It's green tea so it's naturally decaffeinated.

Raspberry/mango iced tea

Here is an iced recipe that I thought of at the last minute. I originally wanted to make just raspberry tea but the raspberries I had did not yield that much juice. Here's what you will need: 1 carton of raspberries 3 mangos 1/2 of a lemon 6-8 green tea bags Boil water and seep the tea bags for about 5-10 minutes. Juice the raspberries and mangos. Pour the tea into a pitcher filled with ice. Add the juice and stir. Squeeze half of a lemon into the pitcher and stir. Add more lemon if you need it. There will be pulp that ends up on the bottom of the pitcher. Just keep stirring everytime you pour a glass of iced tea. I did not need any sugar for this recipe. Just straight green tea and fruit. Drink before bed or on a hot summer day. Enjoy :)

Peach/mint iced tea

I really admire Alicia Silverstone for her veganism. She wrote The Kind Diet and has a website called the kindlife.com and works tirelessly to advocate for animals that are suffering. I would love to meet her and have a chat about her recipes and her work campaigning for a cleaner environment. Anyway, this iced tea recipe is also from her cookbook. I want to branch out and experiment with my own iced tea recipes inspired by the kind diet. I'll be passing those on next week. I want to get some more fruit at the store and check to see how my herbs are growing :) Decaf iced tea is a yummy way to stay hydrated over the summer without worrying about getting too much caffeine. Just stick with green tea bags which are naturally decaffeinated. I will be using my juicer for this recipe like I did for the pomegranate/lime recipe. You should invest in a juicer if you can. It's great for a morning cup of juice, tea, soup etc. Here is what you will need for peach/mint tea: 6 green tea bags

Pomegranate/lime iced tea!

I loooove this iced tea, especially now that it's hot and I can't even think about drinking hot tea. This recipe is in The Kind Diet by Alicia Silverstone. I used fresh pomegranates and juiced them but you can use unsweetened pomegranate juice.  You will need: 2 pomegranates or 1 cup of unsweetened pomegranate juice 1 lime 5-6 green tea bags Boil water and seep the tea bags for about 10 minutes. Fill a pitcher with ice and pour the tea over the ice. Stir in the pomegranate juice. Add some fresh lime juice and throw in 2 lime peels. You can add maple syrup as a sweetener but I didn't add anything. There you have it! Add more lime or pomegranate juice as you like. The lime is strong. This tea is naturally decaffeinated and the pomegranate had antioxidants. Green tea also has antioxidants and so many other health benefits. Drink this if you are trying to stop drinking coffee. Happy summer!! To learn more about Alicia Silverstone and her work advocating for animals, the e
